The Hurricane Lamp prolongs summer evenings on the patio or adds a touch of atmosphere. And suspended from its hanging handle, it casts a warm glow from beneath a tree in the garden, on a covered patio or in a door opening. The holder takes both pillar candles and tea lights, which stand on a disc with a flexible silicone base that catches the wax, preventing it from escaping. The dried wax can then be easily removed by flexing the base. To reduce sooting and to ensure that the candle burns steadily, there is a hole in the bottom of the lamp.
Design with ingenious details
The hurricane lamp is the result of an exciting process for the Tools design duo, which is responsible for all Eva Solo® products: “Our idea from the outset was to simplify this classic lamp so it could be used outdoors. We have created an airy and modern lamp which will look good in many different surroundings, while at the same time incorporating a number of user-friendly details that will enhance its functional quality,” says designer Claus Jensen.
In addition to its elegant glass chimney, the Eva Solo hurricane lamp consists of a silicone base enclosed by a stainless steel ring with a removable metal plate on which the candle sits. The base has a practical silicone reservoir which holds the wax flowing from the lit candle. The base is also flexible, so the wax can easily be loosened and removed before rinsing the reservoir in cold or hot water and replacing it.
There is an air hole in the bottom of the lamp which ensures an adequate supply of air to the candle so it burns uniformly with minimal sooting. The ridges in the base also ensure ventilation and that the lamp sits securely on the table.
